This was a long time in planing, Creating a landing pad for my Qubac model (and maybe to also showcase other models in future...not sure about that). This time I used a similar approach for texturing (still suck at it) like ian hubert uses extensively. (Not much texturing editing, but uv map elements straight fromparts of the unendited maps) Its not an ideal method, and if I would go seriously on it (have more time then just a few days+weekends), I would bake out the textures and edit them individually. This would also help bring things much more together, and would allow for a more photoreal look...which I stopped pursuing after half of it was done....I allways wanted to have something of that style anyway.
A big source for inspiration was a visit of a steel factory almost 10 years ago. (They didn't allow photoprahs, so I had to remodel it from memory...but boy I really recommend a visit if possible...also for the parts where the process the molten steel for later shipping...thats a big visual resource for sci-fi elements.)
What I did, was using some matepaint techniques for the detailng above the hangar doors. which I plan to reuse in other projects. In the end this was the first time I didn't feel like I model something but actually paint. Learned a few new techniques about greebeling and the actual placement of them AND how to adjust the textures in relation to each other.
The background buildings in fog were greebled using custom python scripts which were partly created by AI. (I think such one usage scripts will become some kind of a standard IF the AI bubble does not burst. As a coder it sucks, not because you loose jobs. (No one would invest money in such simple one time scripts anyway). But you will have a harder time justify your expenses towards people which previously used to that workflow.
Anyway thats it. Sure could be better, but thats all I can do in my limited timeframes.
