This is a quickie and pretty much obvious

You can use those cheap tablet holder for tripods as a way to hold your color checker or grey card.
Ideal in combination with a mini tripod

Personally I think the cheap plastic ones are good enough,  since they dont add that much weight to the stuff you wear.




I might sand down the ears a bit so they don't cast that much shaddows on the color fields.
(you can also place it in vertical position so the cast is not on the grey values)


simply enter "tablet holder tripod" in the shop of choice, should cost less than 10 bucks. Of course this is "another gear to wear" problem, but for stationary stuff / studio shoot this should be more an advantage than a problem.


Update 2025: I'm currently settled on this one, the ulanzi ST-29 (or without the brand name (same model number) you can get it even cheaper).

This one retracts to a very small footprint, the clamp edges are small and cast less shaddow. It can be expanded to hold a tablet sized color chart or the xrite at its largest size, and has 1/4 screw holes at the back and bottom. (Although if you put a arca swiss quick release at the back you might loose access to the buttons to expand the holder.) Last but not least its very cheap: It cost around 6-10 bucks. Only downside is, that it is plastic, and I don't have longterm experience with it.
